VIDEO: 2 men reach for driver inside car during road rage incident, Florida police say
Florida police are trying to sort out an alleged road rage incident that occurred just after 5 p.m. Sunday.
The confrontation, which was captured on camera, occurred in the parking lot of the Sunoco gas station in Ormond Beach.
It appears two men were hit by a car, but police are saying those two were the aggressors in the incident.
"I honestly thought that the guy in the BMW was either stealing from the store or stealing the car. I had no idea what was going on," witness Julianna Ingerto said.
Ingerto was in the gas station parking lot when she heard a commotion and started recording with her cellphone. She didn't realize he was seeing the end result of what police called a road rage incident.
In the video, two men approach a BMW and reach inside for the driver. The driver resists, pulls forward and then backs up over one of the two men's feet. The driver then straightens out the car and hits the other man, who is thrown over the hood of the BMW. The driver of the BMW keeps going.
"I was like, 'Oh my gosh.' Like this is actually happening. It was crazy," Ingerto said.
Police said they believe part of the men's story that incident started miles away as road rage but they said that based on the video, they believe the two men followed the BMW driver to the gas station and started the altercation that was caught on camera.
They said the two men who were hit could be charged with burglary and battery, but they haven't been charged yet.
WESH 2 News in Orlando, Florida, reached out to the men, who didn't want to talk on camera. One of the men showed WESH 2 News his injuries, which include a swollen arm and a twisted wrist. The men said the driver of the BMW cut them off and started throwing things at their car at another location. They said they just happened to see him again at the gas station and got out to talk to him before the incident occurred.
Police are trying to identify the driver of the BMW to get his side of the story and to see if he wants to press charges. The other two people in the video insist they were victims of road rage and a hit-and-run.
