BASEBALL

Alhambra 4, Montebello 0

The Moors (19-6, 11-2) won the first game of a three-game series this week with the Oilers (18-7, 12-1).

It was Montebello’s first league loss of the season and it kept the Moors’ Almont League title hopes alive.

The Moors are a game back with two to play (Thursday and Friday) at Alhambra.

Alhambra senior pitcher Matt Garcia tossed a shutout and allowed just four hits with three strikeouts.

Left-hander Marc Hernandez had a double, three hits and an RBI. George Jimenez had a double, two hits and drove in a run. Aidan Alvarez drove in two runs for the Moors.

Walnut 3, Los Altos 1

The Mustangs moved a step closer to clinching at least a tie for the Hacienda League title, which would be their first since 2017. They improved to 15-12 and 8-1 in league.

They are in a tie with South Hills with one game to go, at home Thursday against Los Altos.

Freshman Manny Aguilar collected two hits and drove in two runs as the Mustangs scored all three of their runs in the third inning. JJ Rodriguez drove in the other run.

Junior pitcher Jacob Pallan pitched a complete game, allowing five hits with one earned run and five strikeouts.

San Marino 3, La Canada 0

Junior pitcher JJ Wilson was sensational, tossing a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts.

The Titans (19-7, 8-3) took over sole possession of first place in the Rio Hondo League with the win, moving a game ahead of Temple City (16-11, 7-4) after the Rams lost to Monrovia on Monday.

The Titans can clinch the title outright with another win over La Canada at home on Thursday.

Sid Danenhauer drove in a run for the Titans and Jamie Bercaw finished with two hits on an afternoon when they only managed five hits in all.

La Habra 8, Sonora 1

Highlanders pitcher Jared Day dominated, going the distance with 11 strikeouts while scattering six hits.

The Highlanders (19-8, 5-4) are in third place in the Freeway League and have another big one with Sonora on Thursday in hopes of wrapping up an automatic playoff spot.

Andrew Gandara went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead them. Bobby Fierro had two hits and a run scored.

La Serna 6, California 2

The Lancers (15-9, 9-2) clinched at least a share of the Del Rio League title and can win it outright if they can beat the Condors again in Thursday’s league finale.

Joshua Rodriguez started and went six innings, allowing seven hits, and did not give up an earned run with three strikeouts. Rodriguez was also solid offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Ricky Ceballos also had a big day, finishing with a double, two hits and three RBIs and Ryan Barraza had three hits.

South Hills 5, Diamond Bar 0

The Huskies (19-8, 8-1) can clinch at least a share of the Hacienda League title with a victory over the Brahmas in the league finale Thursday.

Matt Moreno started and went five innings to get the win, allowing two hits with three strikeouts. Moreno also had a double and scored a run.

Luke Bauer led them offensively with a double, three hits and an RBI. Sophomore Matt Manzo had two hits and an RBI.

SOFTBALL

South El Monte 7, Arroyo 1

The Eagles (20-5-2, 11-0) scored four runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead and cruised on its way to a season sweep of the Knights (14-4, 9-2) to clinch the Mission Valley League title.

Junior Nadine Gutierrez pitched a complete game for the Eagles, allowing seven hits with five strikeouts.

Alexis Rodriguez had two hits, a double and two RBIs. Loreli Castrejon was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Jocelyn Lopez also had a double, two hits and an RBI.

St. Paul 9, Bishop Amat 6

The Swordsmen (14-12-1, 6-6), spoiled the Lancers (15-15, 9-3) Del Rey League title hopes scoring five runs in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie.

The Lancers needed a win to guarantee at least a tie with Paraclete for the league title, but came apart at the finish line.

Hannah Moreno had a triple, two hits and and RBI. Audrey Prado had a double and Andrea Tellez drove in two runs.

The Lancers’ Samantha Garcia was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs.

Los Altos 4, Diamond Bar 1

Pitcher Giselle Mejia threw a complete game, allowing five hits with five strikeouts in a win for the Conquerors (16-7-1, 9-1) that clinched the Hacienda League title.

The Conquerors’ lone loss in league was to Walnut, but they swept league favorite South Hills and finished a game ahead of the Huskies to win the championship.

Mejia also had a big day at the plate with a double, three hits and three RBIs. UCLA shortstop commit Brianah Alejandre also collected three hits with a run scored.

La Mirada 12, Mayfair 0

The Matadores (20-5-2, 8-0) finished perfect in the Gateway League as they prepare for next week’s CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.

Rebecca Eckart hit a three-run home run in the third inning and pitcher Montse Reyes-Cardenas threw a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits with nine strikeouts in the six-inning shortened game.

Mayfield 9, Pasadena Poly 0

The Cubs improved to 17-7 and finished 8-4 in the Prep League, leaving them in a tie for second place with Rio Hondo Prep.

Sophomore pitcher Mackenzie Taylor threw a complete game shutout, allowing three hits with four strikeouts.

Madilyn Domingo was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sophia Page finished with two hits and scored twice.
